Being the largest city in Switzerland, Geneva is often chosen as a destination for short breaks, sitting as it does upon the banks of Lake Geneva where the Rhône River exits the lake. Geneva is an excellent choice of destination, relatively inexpensive car hire offered by the major international and European hire car providers can expand the number of places you will be able to visit during your short break. Geneva is served by Geneva Cointrin International Airport, and this is a great choice for pickup or drop off location of your hire car. Have access to your own vehicle while staying in Geneva will allow you to visit places in the surrounding countryside that otherwise would be difficult or impossible to reach using public transport.
A short drive from Geneva is Gruyeres, this charming Swiss Alpine village is noted for its cheese making and visitors are able to view the Gruyeres cheese factory. For something a little more laid back why not enjoy lunch in one of the cities many pavement cafes, laid out in terraces and commanding dramatic views across the mountains. 35 km south of Geneva is Annecy, named by many as the most beautiful town in all of France; Annecy has also been nicknamed Venice of the Savoie due to its impressive lake front beaches and a maze of canals which run through the old town.
